About

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Business and Economics at the University of Groningen, under the supervision of Prof. dr. Abe de Jong and Prof. dr. Herman de Jong. In my current work on convertible bonds, I study Dutch and international firms’ motivation to issue these hybrid instruments instead of more traditional forms of financing, and what determines the security design choices by firms that lead to the highly personalized instruments we see from 1900 until today. I also work on topics of efficient allocation of capital and economic growth, within the NWO-project ‘Taking Stock. The Amsterdam exchange, investor behaviour, and Dutch economic growth, 1870-1940’. In this project, I analyse the role of the Amsterdam exchange in firm financing and subsequent growth. Other members of the project team are Prof. dr. Abe de Jong, Prof. dr. Herman de Jong, Prof. dr. Oscar Gelderblom, Prof. dr. Joost Jonker and dr. Amaury de Vicq.
I have presented my work at the World Economic History Congress (Paris, 2022), seminars of the N.W. Posthumus Institute (Brussels and Lund, 2022), EURHISFIRM seminar (Madrid, 2022) and European Historical Economics Society Conference (Vienna, 2023). I have taught courses in finance and accounting at Erasmus University Rotterdam, and will continue to do so at the University of Groningen.
